Robot Unicorn Attack!

Robot Unicorn Attack!

Robot Unicorn Attack is an addictive little game from Adult Swim. So, I thought I’d review it.

The Game

You play as a charismatic robot unicorn with a flowing rainbow mane and tail. Your objective is to stay alive and not die by fiery, dream crushing failure because you want to live in harmony, harmony, ohh!

The Game Play

Press Z to jump. Press Z again to double jump. Press X to blast through stars. This is a literal example of Press X to not die.

You gain points by staying alive, collecting those rainbow butterfly/fairy looking things, and smashing through stars. As time goes on, the unicorn speeds up which is where the challenge comes in.

You get three wishes that act as lives and are represented as little white unicorns on your screen.

The Pros

If you have time to waste, ohhhh man. You can do it with this game. It’s probably the most addicting online game I’ve played.Everyone I know that has played it doesn’t understand why it so addicting. Maybe Adult Swim has figured out how to give us crack through computer screens via the eyeballs.

The music is great. You will want to download that song, which would be Always by Erasure.

It’s easy to pick up with simple controls, but as the unicorn gets faster it becomes more of a challenge. It’ll bode well with those who suck and those who eat noobs for breakfast.

The Cons

It doesn’t have a pause button. Granted in a game of increasing difficulty and speed, a pause button is a bit moot but still could have been thrown in for convenience since you can’t deploy your next wish on your own terms unless you do it before the countdown clock runs out. That’s another gripe I have with it. Why say “Press Z to make your next wish!” when you’re going to start the game anyway when the countdown runs out?

There’s no button to turn the music off. Even if you love this song, you’re probably not going to want to hear it repeatedly as you play  this game. If you hate the song, stay very far away from this game.

Score screen. Lousy short countdown pictured.

The Verdict

It’s a good enough game to spend time on if you like unicorns, speed, and funky music. It’s free as well. If you’d like to play the game and judge for yourself, click here. To visit Adult Swim, click here.

This has been Ink. Signing off.
