Gingerness and how much I think we’re being idiotic.

Gingerness and how much I think we’re being idiotic.

My first post comes on a very strong, well not strong, but a critical matter in this world.  You see, this morning I commented on Facebook that I was jealous of my friends ‘gingerness’ and her response was, “You really have no idea what that entails do you?”  I pretended I did, but the reality of the situation was that I did not. Yes, I had noticed some increase in the way people poked fun at red heads with the obnoxious name calling and the funny Facebook groups.   I suppose it’s all in good fun to go, “HAH! You carrot top YOU HAVE NO SOUL!” But where is that fine line between joking and bullying?

It may surprise you that in England, gingers are actually bullied a lot (and to think one of the greatest British families is full of redheads, and yes I mean the Weasleys) and why? Well it all goes back to some old wives’ tale that gingers are all descendents of the devil. Okay, so they may have some type of temper, but that’s just poppycock.  Aren’t we all big enough now to know how stupid that is?  We’re taking something that people believed with out any form of evidence and turning it into a joke, and we don’t even think about for a second how it’s affecting the group. I mean what if I started to make jokes about blondes?  Oh wait, we already do that… I mean jokes about people with dark hair or people who write with their left hands (another thing that people thought related you to evil).  I personally don’t understand the commotion around this little ‘phase’ humans are going through, if it is a phase. Throughout my life, I’ve been in awe of gingers.  My first friend in England was ginger and I still think she’s one of the prettiest doll-like girls I know.  My first friend in Nerdfighteria was ginger, too, and I just love her and her attitude.  My favorite elementary school was ginger and I thought she was a goddess.

Why do we make fun of gingers? Is it because everyone else does?  Is it because we just have to choose one group every decade to make fun of?  I’m kind of sick and tired of the whole ginger-hating.  You can’t judge a person by their hair color, you really can’t.  And telling me that all gingers get mad easily is well true, but if you’re poking fun at them over and over again, I don’t blame them for getting mad.

So ends this whole gingerness rant of mine. I believe in gingers and their souls.

What are your thoughts on all this?

Robo.to: Update Yourself with Video

Robo.to: Update Yourself with Video

I’m going to assume that 98% of you have not heard of robo.to.  It’s a site similar to DailyBooth or Twitter, depending on how you use it.

The way the site works is like this: You record a 4 second, muted video with your webcam.  If you have the option to use effects, then sure, go ahead.  You can update your status to Twitter like this, using video to emphasize things.  Or, you can just keep things on the site (and if you want, still tell your Twitter followers that you’ve updated).

It’s pretty fun, and not very well known.  So, if you want to check it out, then go ahead and do that.  I have an account here.

If you join, go ahead and link us to your profile in the comments!

A Rant on Procrastination

A Rant on Procrastination

I am sure that every single person on this planet has, at one time, put off their work, avoided calling an obnoxious relative until they absolutely had to, or otherwise loafed about until there was no time left to do the things they so desperately needed to do. Any of you who are still in school will agree on this: We all procrastinate, it is in our nature. We want fun now, and work later, and we often ignore the fact that if we finish our work quickly, we can have all the time in the world to mess around later– but that would also mean putting ourselves through a bout of boredom before we did what we wanted to do.

Now, honestly, there is a point to this rant! I am in a play called ‘Talking With’ playing the character Mary Titfer (The crazy one; I was a bit bemused when everyone who read the script said that it was the character I should try for, since they could “see me doing that”), the play is composed of several monologues strung together; all women. We had to have our pieces memorized by March 1st… Today is February 28th, and I still don’t have it memorized. “No, I’ll start working on it tomorrow, I have plenty of time!” I said. NO. WRONG. That plentiful supply of time that I was fond of has run out, and now I’m left furiously staring at the three pages of rambling that I’m supposed to have completely memorized by tomorrow, trying to force it to stick in my hazy brain.

And let me say, I have the memory of a dazed goldfish.

According to my good friend Webster, to procrastinate means ‘to defer action; delay’. Simple. But as a matter of fact, it is a defining trait of what it means to be human– and I suppose that cats do it to, all mine does is sleep all day…but what does a cat need to do? I don’t think they ever sit there in the sun and say “Oh…I really should lick myself, but I think I’ll take a nap first…”

In truth, I really should be memorizing my monologue–instead, I wrote this. Really, if the director throws things at me, I have only myself to blame.

Do you blog?

Everyone knows what blogging is.  Heck, even old people know what blogging is.  And I know that a lot of you probably have taken up this little hobby.  I know I do occasionally.  So this post is to ask you Nerdfighters to do a little shameless plugging and link your blog in the comments.

Mine contains swear words, even in the name, but nothing too obscene.

Robot Unicorn Attack!

Robot Unicorn Attack!

Robot Unicorn Attack is an addictive little game from Adult Swim. So, I thought I’d review it.

The Game

You play as a charismatic robot unicorn with a flowing rainbow mane and tail. Your objective is to stay alive and not die by fiery, dream crushing failure because you want to live in harmony, harmony, ohh!

The Game Play

Press Z to jump. Press Z again to double jump. Press X to blast through stars. This is a literal example of Press X to not die.

You gain points by staying alive, collecting those rainbow butterfly/fairy looking things, and smashing through stars. As time goes on, the unicorn speeds up which is where the challenge comes in.

You get three wishes that act as lives and are represented as little white unicorns on your screen.

The Pros

If you have time to waste, ohhhh man. You can do it with this game. It’s probably the most addicting online game I’ve played.Everyone I know that has played it doesn’t understand why it so addicting. Maybe Adult Swim has figured out how to give us crack through computer screens via the eyeballs.

The music is great. You will want to download that song, which would be Always by Erasure.

It’s easy to pick up with simple controls, but as the unicorn gets faster it becomes more of a challenge. It’ll bode well with those who suck and those who eat noobs for breakfast.

The Cons

It doesn’t have a pause button. Granted in a game of increasing difficulty and speed, a pause button is a bit moot but still could have been thrown in for convenience since you can’t deploy your next wish on your own terms unless you do it before the countdown clock runs out. That’s another gripe I have with it. Why say “Press Z to make your next wish!” when you’re going to start the game anyway when the countdown runs out?

There’s no button to turn the music off. Even if you love this song, you’re probably not going to want to hear it repeatedly as you play  this game. If you hate the song, stay very far away from this game.

Score screen. Lousy short countdown pictured.

The Verdict

It’s a good enough game to spend time on if you like unicorns, speed, and funky music. It’s free as well. If you’d like to play the game and judge for yourself, click here. To visit Adult Swim, click here.

This has been Ink. Signing off.
